New to our area? Carrizo Springs is the oldest town in Dimmit County. It was founded in 1865 by settlers from Atascosa County. For the first 40 years or so, ranching was the primary business here. Then artesian water was discovered to be an easy way to irrigate land, and agriculture began to boom.
Carrizo Springs is from where the Texas Granex onions were shipped to Georgia, where they became known as Vidalia onions. Onions to this day remain the leading commercial vegetable crop in Texas!
