Welcome to Mission, Texas! Just across the Mexican border lies Mission. The local area, situated right along the Rio Grande were home to Native Americans for more than 1,000 years before the Spanish arrived in the mid-18th century.
Mission was also the first place in South Texas where citrus was planted and is sometimes called Home of the Ruby Red Grapefruit. The annual Texas Citrus Fiesta is head here each year!
The Mission area was a setting for Larry McMurtry’s novel and miniseries Lonesome Dove.
